Volcano Gorilla park Rwanda has got 10 habituated gorilla families  and the group to visit is determined on the  morning of the trekking day.

The Trip begins from Kigali to Volcano park and Back to Kigali in one day.

At 4:30 am , you will be picked by our safari guide who is a trained driver and drive to Kinigi at Volcano parc head quarters to be registered and assigned gorilla families to visit depending on your hiking ability. Afterwards you will be briefed about the gorilla family to visit , get back into the Vehicle and drive to the trekking start point at base of the Virunga Mountains accompanied by armed game rangers, move into the jungle in search for the amazing creatures the mountain gorillas.

Our safari guide will wait for you at the base of the virunga volcanic mountain ranges until you will finish trekking.

If the afternoon, you will have lunch at La'pailotte camp or Hotel Muhabura before driving back to Kigali

Day 1- Arrive Kigali Visit Kigali city and the genocide memorial and Transfer to your hotel of choice near Volcanoes Park

On arrival at Kigali Airport, our safari guide will meet you and take you for a city Tour of Kigali and the genocide memorial, then you will transfer to Mountain Gorilla view lodge (luxury), le bambou gorilla lodge/Snow hotel (mid-range), Kinigi guest house/Snow hotel budget rooms (budget) for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 2- 1st. Gorilla trekking

Have an early morning breakfast and then transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting the Gorilla trek through the bamboo forest. You may take between 1 – 6 hours to find the Gorillas and viewing may take another 1-2 hour. Return to Mountain Gorilla view lodge (luxury), le bambou gorilla lodge/Snow hotel (mid-range), Kinigi guest/Snow hotel budget rooms (budget) for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 3- 2nd gorilla trekking

This day you will trek another gorilla family. After breakfast you will follow yesterday’s procedures.  You will later on return for dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla view lodge (luxury), le bambou gorilla lodge/Snow hotel (mid-range), Snow hotel budget rooms/Kinigi guest house (budget)

 

Day 4-Transfer to Kigali and Air port

Day 1-Transfer to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

After breakfast, our Tour guide will collect you from your hotel and transfer you to Ngamba Island. The Island is a chimpanzee sanctuary managed by the Jane Goodall Institute. They usually get the chimps from the wild and look after them, most especially those that are infants and cannot take care of themselves. You will reach in time for feeding the Chimpanzee and you will watch them feed.

Wondering which country offers the most excellent gorilla trek? Which gorilla permits are cheaper?

With this type of Tour you have got a chance to compare and contrast Gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda.

 

In terms of Distance and accessibility Rwanda is far much better with only 2 hours’ drive From Kigali Airport to Musanze or Kinigi where to find Accommodation near the park where as Uganda its a whole day transfer From Entebbe Airport to Bwindi forest or Mgahinga national park more adventurous and cost effective.

Nevertheless, the trekking experience and the gorilla behaviors are equally the same.

 

Below is the Itinerary to follow;

 

Day 1 –Transfer to Bwindi gorilla forest

Our tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Kampala and drive west to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Have a journey break at the Equator and take some photos. Then continue to Mbarara town where you will stop for lunch prior to heading through the grasslands of Ankole. If you are trekking in the southern part of Bwindi where Nkuringo and Nshongi Families of gorillas are located, you will have a lunch stop in Kabale before you proceed to Kisoro.

Alongthe road you will enjoy the beauty of the wonderful long horned cattle before going on to the highlands of Kigezi referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Africa! You will arrive in Bwindi in the evening; freshen up as you wait for dinner and overnight. Day 2 –Gorilla trekking in bwindi forest

Take a hearty breakfast after which a ranger then move to the ranger station for briefing from ranger guides who will guide you through the impenetrable forest. Tracking the Gorillas through the thick forest is awe-Inspiring experience! In case you are lucky you can get to see the gorillas, spend 1 hour with them, and be back at the lodge in time for dinner. Remember to carry packed lunch, enough water as this activity is so tiring, its also important to wear good hiking boots of an ankle level and long trousers for protection against stinging nettles. Sometimes the slope may be steep so you must carry. Day 3 –Transfer to Rwanda

Take breakfast and depart for Rwanda. You will cross the border via Kisoro orKabale then clear at the boarder -Rwanda is 1 hour behind Uganda . Located in the far northwest of Rwanda, the Parc des Volcans is home to the steep slopes of this wonderful mountain range – home of the rare mountain gorilla – and the rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, which cuddles evergreen and bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath. Day 4 – Gorilla trekking in Pac des Volcanoes

Have breakfast and go to ORTPN offices in Kinigi  for briefing after that set off in the forest for Gorilla trekking. A thrilling trek through the refined foothills of the Virungas provides inspiring views in all directions. Then, suddenly, the trail enters the national park, engrossing trekkers in the strange closeness of the rainforest, alive with the calls of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey, and besieged with fresh spoor of the mountains’ elusive populations of buffalo and elephant. Day 1- Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Park with a stop over at the Equator

At 8 O'clock in the morning you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park passing  through the scenic country side of Ankole.

You will make your first stop at the Equator take photos and Lunch in Mbarara arriving in the afternoon, have a afternoon games drive which is rewarding with a variety of animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, mongoose among others. Day 2 –Chimpanzee tracking and a launch cruise

Take breakfast to warm up in the morning and then go chimp tracking in Kyambura gorge.  The gorge 100mtres profound is a habitat to habituated chimpanzees. It is imprinted by Kyambura River which flows across the rift valley floor towards the Kazinga channel. The guided walk to search for man’s closest cousins the chimpanzee begins at Kyambura Fig tree camp at 0800 hours and takes 2 – 5 hours.   You will encounter other primates in this gorge that include the red tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, olive baboon among others. Relax as you wait for lunch time. In the afternoon, you will be taken for a boat ride at the Kazinga channel. This will expose you to various aquatic mammals like the Crocodiles and herds of Hippopotami. The shoreline of this channel is well known for its massive flocks of birds like the fish eagle, African jacana, pelicans and if you are lucky, the shoe bill. Crocodiles have become a common sight here and irregularly leopards. Day 3 – Morning game drives and Transfer to Bwindi forest

Very early in the morning go for a games drive in search for the early risers. Expect encounters of lions, leopard, the Uganda kob, elephants, buffalo and many other personal expenses. Return to the  lodge for breakfast , You will be transferred to Bwindi National park through the Ishasha sector. A game drive through this southern sector of Queen Elizabeth is famous for tree climbing Lion encounters. Have lunch en route and then after transfer to Bwindi national park. Day 4 - Gorilla trekking

Early Morning, Go gorilla tracking, walking up steep densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. An inspiring moment! (This trek can take from half an hour to 5 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes) Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. Day 5 – Transfer to Rwanda

Day 6 – Gorilla trekking and transfer to KIsoro

After breakfast, go gorillas tracking in Parc National des Volcans. Tracking the gorillas in this light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a supernatural experience. The walks might be laborious! An encounter of a family of gorillas is rewarding! Spend an hour with them and be back at the base in time for a late lunch! Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy. Day 7 - Transfer to Kampala
